Inspired by William Morris
November 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Y4 children have been studying the work of William Morris and have reproduced their own designs based on the techniques and styles used by him.
William Morris was the single most influential designer of the nineteenth century, and remains today one of the best known of all British designers. This is due to his extraordinary talent as a pattern designer. He was born in 1834.
These examples have been created by Phoebe, Thomas and Amelia.

Buggy Grand Prix at CYB!
November 29, 2009 · 3 Comments
More than 50 children took part in designing and making a model buggy as part of our design & technology project which encouraged parents to join in as well.
Last Wednesday children brought their finished buggies into school for the Grand Prix races which were held in the sports hall in front of a packed audience. Prizes were awarded for the top 3 fastest buggies, the buggies which could travel in the straightest line and hit a target and finally for the buggy which captured the judges attention for its originality and quality of design.
All the children (and parents) had lots of fun and although there was a strong competitive element, everyone supported each other really well. The quality of work by the children was superb indeed.
- Charlotte’s buggy which won a prize for style and originality
- Katie and Brian ready for the final race to decide the overall winner
- Katie takes first place and Brian a close second
- Congratulations to all the prize winners!

Congratulations to Nicholas (Y3) and Jack (Y5) for being awarded the Chairman’s Trophy for good sportsmanship in their BMX riding. Nicholas had a bad crash and Jack picked up his bike and finished the race for him in order for Nicholas to be awarded the points.
They are both very helpful at the BMX meetings, reliable, always smiling and a real credit to the Club.
They are pictured here proudly holding their magnificent trophies.
Also photographed are Charlie and his friend Thomas. Charlie won an award for BMX biking as the most improved boy and he came 1st in the club series and in the annual championships.

The Queen’s Baton Relay comes to CYB
November 16, 2009 · 2 Comments
- Ross is the final bearer of the baton, pictured with some of our local athletes
- Some of the Y6 baton bearers delivering our own message of good luck
We were honoured to receive the Queen’s Baton this afternoon, as it made its way across all 40 of the Island’s schools on its long journey from Buckingham Palace in London to Delhi in India, the host country for the XIX (19th) 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The Queen’s baton Relay is one of the great traditions of the Commonwealth Games. It symbloizes the gathering of people from across the Commonwealth every four years in a festival of sport and culture.
Inside this beautifully designed baton is a message written by the Queen wishing athletes across all 71 nations of the Commonwealth good luck.
Our 8 Year 6 baton bearers enjoyed holding this and showing it to all the children and staff in school as they lined up along the corridors and in the hall.

It’s a bit hilly in Peel!
November 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment
A tremendous fell race this afternoon with six Cronk y Berry runners battling it out in the under 11’s race which took place up Peel Hill. Our children are wearing the bright yellowy/green tops.
The under 11’s race, which attracted more competitors than in the older school age ranges, saw 18 children battle it out over the shortest course. An almost photo finish saw Phinto from Western Athletics Club take first place, 1 second ahead of Conor from CYB. There was great running also from our runners, George and his sister Laura as well as our youngest competitor, Dylan. Amelia took a super 2nd place for the girls race, 1 second ahead of her older sister Olivia.

The Ancient Egyptians come to CYB!
November 6, 2009 · 2 Comments
Y4 produced a superb assembly this morning all about life in Ancient Egypt. Through singing, presentations, acting and demonstrations, they shared with us the wonders of the pyramids, the mystery of the gods, how they believed in the Afterlife and much more.
The children were a credit to themselves and all the children, staff and parents enjoyed it. Well done Year 4!

CYB are champion readers
November 6, 2009 · 2 Comments
Our school managed to scoop the £100 prize for having the largest proportion of children taking part and completing the Quest Seekers reading challenge, organised by the Henry Bloom Noble library over the summer holidays. A representative from CMI, the sponsors of the event came into school to present the prize to our children, along with one of the team from the library. We will look forward to using this money to buy some new books for our school library.

Links with New Zealand
November 6, 2009 · 2 Comments
Amelia in Y4 has worked really hard in producing this superb record of the journeys of manx cat Finny who takes a tour around some of the highlights of our Island. This excellent record is being sent to our link school in New Zealand, our adopted nation as part of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games events. We hope children at Rotokawa School on the outskirts of Rotorua city in New Zealand enjoy reading this book and we are looking forward to receiving their travel buddy anytime now.
