We were honoured to receive the Queen’s Baton this afternoon, as it made its way across all 40 of the Island’s schools on its long journey from Buckingham Palace in London to Delhi in India, the host country for the XIX (19th) 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The Queen’s baton Relay is one of the great traditions of the Commonwealth Games. It symbloizes the gathering of people from across the Commonwealth every four years in a festival of sport and culture.
Inside this beautifully designed baton is a message written by the Queen wishing athletes across all 71 nations of the Commonwealth good luck.
Our 8 Year 6 baton bearers enjoyed holding this and showing it to all the children and staff in school as they lined up along the corridors and in the hall.
