Y4 children attend important Commonwealth Youth Games meeting

October 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Phoebe, Thomas, Zoe and Amelia in Class 4S attended an important meeting during the holidays at Scoill Valajeelt, when they met the Ministers for Education and Tourism and Leisure and Mike Hopper, the New Zealand representative for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2011, who was visiting the Island for the first time. The Isle of Man is hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 and to mark this event, our school is linking up with a school in New Zealand, so it was interesting for the children to listen to Mr Hopper discussing his love of the ‘All blacks’, and his curiosity about Manx tail-less cats!

Congratulations to Phoebe who won the mascot for the Commonwealth Youth Games held in Pune, India last year.

The scary Minotaur is no match for Theseus!

October 30, 2009 · 2 Comments

Class 5H performed a thrilling assembly last Friday with an informative presentation persuading us to adopt healthy life styles through exercising regularly and eating well-balanced meals. They then entertained us with a well executed play all about the Ancient Greek myth, Theseus and the Minotaur and we all shrieked in horror at the Minotaur’s terrifying roar, although you could see Mr Higgins grinning in the background. I wonder why!?

Chess in the library is proving to be a popular alternative to the playground during lunchtimes for KS2 children. Many children are putting Mr Sellors through his paces. If you would like to learn how to play, come along at lunchtimes, 12.30-12.55 on the day when your year group is down to play and you will soon pick it up with a little help from your mates!Check-mate my friend!

It was a dark and cold night. Something was lurking through the trees. Coco the dragon was lost. He didn’t know what to do. Suddenly, something jumped out of the trees. It was the witch of the dead on the full moon guarding the treasure to save Coco’s family. Coco was furious so he started his hunt.

He looked over Whodale with nothing in sight so he tried Loodale; still nothing in sight. So he climbed up to the castle of Who’s. He ran in but the King of Who’s was playing cops and robbers with the Fool. Suddenly he started to scream; “Fool! I totally caught you!” Then the Fool went silent and then Thriller played on the radio full blast and the king said, “I love this song!” and started to dance. “King, king! I am trying to speak to you, your highness.” Suddenly, the king stopped and said ‘ “Who are you?” “Coco, the dragon” replied Coco. “I have met the witch of the dead!  She has parents.”  But suddenly the sky went dark blue and the wind was howling and leaves were dangling from the trees.

The dragon is lurking, by Luke in Year 4

October 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

37867My dragon is lurking in his cold, gloomy cave. His skin is red like fire and his scales are spiky and razor-sharp like a sword. His tail is like an arrow head. It is strong and muscular and one swipe of this tail can wipe out a whole army. His ears are very sensitive and can detect the sound of prey two hundred miles away. His teeth are so sharp, they can rip a human to shreds. His fire can reach up to 4000 metres away. He is feeling very very happy today because he is snuggled up in his cave reading a story.

The Battle of Monsters by Todd and Alex in Year 4

October 23, 2009 · 4 Comments

home_dragons

A long, long time ago, 5000 years before humans existed, dragons roamed the mountains. The fire dragons, ice dragons, poison dragons, war dragons, Chinese dragons, rock dragons, race dragons, king dragons, baby dragons, giant dragons, forest dragons, sea dragons and water-breathing dragons.

The dragons lived in caves in the middle of undiscovered mountains. The ground was floating on molten lava. There were two other souls living in the mountains. A skeleton called Master Cron lived near the top of the mountains. Cron lived in a hollow part of the mountains overlooking the dragon village. He secretly hated the dragons and decided to rebell against them. He got all the immortal demons and devils and decided to crush the dragons. The second person who lived on the mountains was the Warrior of Ice. He heard of Crons’ evil plans and set off to save the dragons. He was blue with long white hair and lived on the top of the mountains. He was good with a big brain and was the strongest man in the world. The Warrior of Ice had lots of deadly weapons. He got his angel friend and went to save the dragons. Master Cron arrived with his deadly army. It was a long battle and lasted for days. Master Cron was much more powerful and had nearly made the dragons surrender, when the dragons remembered their special move. The dreaded reign of 1000 flames! The dragons shot up and 1000 fireballs came out. Only Cron was left alive. The giant dragons came along with their big tail and flat feet and started stamping around. Master Cron died horribly and the dragons still live now, far away on another island.

As you walk through the muddy and soggy grave yard, you can see a dark, creepy mansion. The mansion is the home of Rex, the dragon.

The grave yard is misty and the ground feels like it is shaking. As you walk closer to the mansion you see it has arms to scare the ghosts. At the bottom of the steep cliff is a wet, spooky cave. In there, lives three ghastly ghosts. There is dad, mum and baby. They use their forceful powers to smash windows. They swoop down and whack the mansion so Rex gets really mad.04.Carson Mansion

Owen has started to write this fantastic story about two dragons.

Once upon a time there was a 5 star hotel with 100 rooms. There was two friends that lived there called Felix and Mikey. They were dragons.  They were both multicoloured and had big tails. They had blue eyes and colourful skin and slippery skin and strong long legs with sharp nails on his feet. On his four toes, it was slimy and green.
