Our school choir and dance teams performed superbly on Saturday in this year’s Manx Music Festival at the Villa Marina with the singers hitting top spot and taking the prestigious Regal Singers Trophy for first place in the under 12’s mixed choir class.

CYB school choir basking in success at winning the Vancouver shield
Overall, our choir excelled and also scooped the Vancouver Shield for Manx Junior Schools choirs, performing to the highest standard out of all choir entries. Our talented choir leader, Mrs Jenni Garrett was delighted with this result and credit goes to her for working with the children and pushing the standard of singing to these new heights in a relatively short time during this academic year.
The Manx dancers were also a roaring success, demonstrating control, rhythmic leadership and flare as they performed 3 dancers, The Mhelliah, Hunt the Wren and Cutting the turf with superb control and precision. To the delight of the parents and staff, the Y2 dance team, under the leadership of Miss Graham, took runner’s up place to Scoill Phurt Le Moirrey with a delightful performance of Hunt the Wren.
A most successful day was had by all and thank you to all the children who took part and for their hard work over the past months and also to Mrs Dalgleish, Miss Graham, Miss Boyde and Miss Caley for their support and leadership.

The children in Year 1 and teachers (and parents did 1 line too!) acted out the song Grumpy Teacher – they recorded it (with the help of some Y6 children) on sound studio and we video recorderd all the different actions. Everyone loved doing it!

After winning a raffle during red Nose Day, Robert Murtagh’s prize was to enjoy being Headteacher of our school for the day.
Robert, age 6 was introduced to all staff and children throughout the school and commented on the high standards of work by the children. Sporting very smart trousers and pressed white shirt and tie, he enjoyed presenting children with stickers for good handwriting as well as Superstar certificates in assembly for children who had shown a good attitude during the week.
Several highlights of the day included using the telephone and asking the secretary for a glass of milk and biscuit, using the electronic security pass to get in and out of the building, checking the school grounds first thing in the morning and going up onto the school roof with the caretaker to retrieve a football. Mr Murtagh was particularly impressed with the keys which could open every single door in the school. Staff enjoyed Mr Murtagh’s charismatic and encouraging leadership style and were impressed with how quickly he got to know everyone. They are keen for him to return!
The following week Mr Sellors enjoyed reversing the roles and spent half a day with Robert, enjoying a morning as a Year 1 pupil. Fortunately he remembered to bring his reading book and his PE kit.
