The Ancient Egyptians come to CYB!

November 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Y4 produced a superb assembly this morning all about life in Ancient Egypt. Through singing, presentations, acting and demonstrations, they shared with us the wonders of the pyramids, the mystery of the gods, how they believed in the Afterlife and much more.

The children were a credit to themselves and all the children, staff and parents enjoyed it. Well done Year 4!

CYB are champion readers

November 6, 2009 · 1 Comment

Our school managed to scoop the £100 prize for having the largest proportion of children taking part and completing the Quest Seekers reading challenge, organised by the Henry Bloom Noble library over the summer holidays. A representative from CMI, the sponsors of the event came into school to present the prize to our children, along with one of the team from the library. We will look forward to using this money to buy some new books for our school library.

Links with New Zealand

November 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Amelia in Y4 has worked really hard in producing this superb record of the journeys of manx cat Finny who takes a tour around some of the highlights of our Island. This excellent record is being sent to our link school in New Zealand, our adopted nation as part of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games events. We hope children at Rotokawa School on the outskirts of Rotorua city in New Zealand enjoy reading this book and we are looking forward to receiving their travel buddy anytime now.

Y4 children attend important Commonwealth Youth Games meeting

October 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Phoebe, Thomas, Zoe and Amelia in Class 4S attended an important meeting during the holidays at Scoill Valajeelt, when they met the Ministers for Education and Tourism and Leisure and Mike Hopper, the New Zealand representative for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2011, who was visiting the Island for the first time. The Isle of Man is hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 and to mark this event, our school is linking up with a school in New Zealand, so it was interesting for the children to listen to Mr Hopper discussing his love of the ‘All blacks’, and his curiosity about Manx tail-less cats!

Congratulations to Phoebe who won the mascot for the Commonwealth Youth Games held in Pune, India last year.

The scary Minotaur is no match for Theseus!

October 30, 2009 · 2 Comments

Class 5H performed a thrilling assembly last Friday with an informative presentation persuading us to adopt healthy life styles through exercising regularly and eating well-balanced meals. They then entertained us with a well executed play all about the Ancient Greek myth, Theseus and the Minotaur and we all shrieked in horror at the Minotaur’s terrifying roar, although you could see Mr Higgins grinning in the background. I wonder why!?

Chess in the library is proving to be a popular alternative to the playground during lunchtimes for KS2 children. Many children are putting Mr Sellors through his paces. If you would like to learn how to play, come along at lunchtimes, 12.30-12.55 on the day when your year group is down to play and you will soon pick it up with a little help from your mates!Check-mate my friend!

Coco the dragon was lost, by Sam in Year 4

It was a dark and cold night. Something was lurking through the trees. Coco the dragon was lost. He didn’t know what to do. Suddenly, something jumped out of the trees. It was the witch of the dead on the full moon guarding the treasure to save Coco’s family. Coco was furious so he started his hunt.

He looked over Whodale with nothing in sight so he tried Loodale; still nothing in sight. So he climbed up to the castle of Who’s. He ran in but the King of Who’s was playing cops and robbers with the Fool. Suddenly he started to scream; “Fool! I totally caught you!” Then the Fool went silent and then Thriller played on the radio full blast and the king said, “I love this song!” and started to dance. “King, king! I am trying to speak to you, your highness.” Suddenly, the king stopped and said ‘ “Who are you?” “Coco, the dragon” replied Coco. “I have met the witch of the dead!  She has parents.”  But suddenly the sky went dark blue and the wind was howling and leaves were dangling from the trees.
